What is Codenames?

Codenames is a team word game where two spymasters give one-word clues that link several cards on a grid of 25 words. Teammates guess which cards belong to their side while avoiding the assassin card.

It rewards clever, careful thinking and works beautifully at a table with the box laid out. The flip side is setup time and long pauses while a spymaster thinks of the perfect clue.

Codenames vs Tadado: questions

Is Tadado a Codenames app?

No. Tadado is an independent party word game. It shares the team spirit of Codenames, but each turn you describe a single word without saying its forbidden clues.

Which is better for travel?

Tadado, because it lives on your phone and works offline once downloaded. Codenames needs the box and space to lay out the cards.

Can we play both on the same night?

Of course. Many groups start with fast Tadado rounds to warm up, then switch to a slower strategy game later.
